In 1996 the Guangdong Provincial People’s Government officially approved the school’s establishment and in March 1998 Peizheng was registered with China’s Ministry of Education. In March 2005, with the Ministry of Education’s approval, Peizheng was upgraded to the status of a four-year comprehensive program school for full-time college students under the nation’s enrollment plan. Peizheng is a non-profit private school of higher learning. In 1999 the National Committee for Private Education awarded Peizheng the title of Model Private School of the Nation and the Guangdong Education Bureau designated Peizheng as Guangdong’s Model Private School in 2005. At Peizheng, job-oriented programs are provided in accordance with the school’s vital principle---Go meet the growing requirements of our developing society. The school’s operational philosophy is to put people first and to build a student-centered learning community. Accordingly, the core of our work is to develop quality education so as to produce more creative-minded graduates. Peizheng strives to provide a school governed by professionals, a school known for its quality and scientific research. Peizheng students develop English language, computer skills and academic major skills under the credit system which encourages development of individuals. Continually strengthening overseas academic counterpart ties, Peizheng strives to integrate with international higher education standards to cultivate graduates possessing multiple competences augmented with hands-on experience required by export-oriented enterprises or other future employers. Peizheng is located by Lake Jiyi in Chini Town of Huadu District, Guangzhou. The beautiful campus covers an area of 1,700 mu (113 hectares), where green hills and clear waters treat viewer’s eyes. It is a pleasant environment for study. Peizheng has accumulated total assets of 420 million yuan (55 million US dollars) in 14 years. Building floor areas occupy 300,000 square meters. The library collection exceeds 905,000 volumes, including 200,000 e-books. Labs with advanced equipment are a campus feature. Peizheng maintains a strong and stable team of qualified teachers. Professors constitute 30.6% of our 647 full-time faculty. Guest professors are invited as well. Currently, we have 83 full-time foreign teachers, the largest such contingent in Guangdong province. There are 12 departments (or centers) at Peizheng in the following areas: economics, marketing, business management, accounting, law, foreign languages, computer sciences, artistic design, humanities, general courses, English Education Center (EEC), PE, Bilingual Teaching Center (BTC). Subjects studied total 61, 28 in the four-year undergraduate program and 33 in the three-year program. In the fall of 2006, student registration numbered 11,582. Our institution’s graduates are in demand on the job market.
